Exploring impacts on students as givers of teaching feedback

Purpose Feedback is usually given for the primary benefit of feedback recipient and often involves unidirectional delivery information. The purpose this paper to reverse emphasis examines impacts on students giving staff as an ongoing dialogue in a teaching unit. Design/methodology/approach This novel study uses surveys focus groups in-depth case impact staff. It different aspects students’ experiences related their sense being supported valued, together with issues relevance, timeliness actionability feedback. Findings Results show that regular by subsequent academic actions can help increase valued. strongest correlations occurred between responses those who felt valued perception own was acted upon during semester. There also some evidence suggesting when observing other either immediately or future. Research limitations/implications single approach research means only one cohort tested. further cohorts would validate findings. Practical implications could have quality practice better directing, communicating, engaging following up student Originality/value Whilst well documented, there little documenting benefits students. addresses gap existing research.
